Hannah – A name that means gracious, full of grace and mercy.
As any human I may not consistently project the traditional
gracious nature that a Hannah is said to obtain but I guess even Hebrews can be
a faulty judge of character. Even so, that’s the name I was given when I was
bought into this world on the 27th of May 1993 by two of the most incredible
parents any child could ever ask for.
When you have no siblings your parents automatically become your
everything, they are much of the reason why I have ended up here in wellington.
In all honesty and as shallow as it may appear my first interest
in design came from shopping. Colour, texture, fabric or season, it amazed me
how such a minor part of every day life could distinguish one person so
dramatically from the next. Not so much in the sense of fashion, but more in
the sense of personality. Regardless of where I was in the world – India or New
Zealand, everyone was self-expressive, and that was due to the design of his or
her own culture that in a way, both separates and brings together. It was at
design class in school where I was able to put these ideas in motion as my
passion for design continually built. Kareem Rizk in terms of style is an inspiration
to me and it was half way through year 13 looking at his works when I realized
this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
I want to make the most out of every opportunity given to me
while I am at design school and whatever comes my way in the future because
life’s too short to waste.
